FAQ

VPS questions and answers

The plans and their 10 Gbps port, monthly traffic, paying with crypto, and running your server.

Plans and traffic

What comes with every plan?

Every plan has a virtual 10 Gbps port, local NVMe SSD storage, 1 IPv4 address, standard DDoS IP protection, 1 snapshot and KVM with full root access. Monthly outbound traffic is 30 TB in every location.

Does inbound traffic count?

No. The allowance counts outbound traffic, which is the data your server sends. Data your server receives does not count.

Is traffic unmetered?

No. Every plan has a monthly allowance. Port speed is a rate and the allowance is a volume. In theory, a server sending at the full 10 Gbps would use 30 TB in about 6.7 hours (taking 1 TB as 1012 bytes). So a server can't run at that speed all month within the allowance. Our traffic guide has the math.

Can I buy several servers at once?

Yes. Set the quantity on a plan page, or add different plans to your cart, then pay for them together. You can change or remove anything in your cart before you pay.

Can I buy more traffic?

Yes. Open your server in your dashboard and choose Buy more traffic. Packs of 5, 10, 20, 50 TB add to the current calendar month and end when the month ends. Unused extra traffic does not carry over.

Why do prices differ by location?

Leaseweb's own costs differ by location, and our prices follow them. A plan's vCPU, RAM, NVMe SSD and port are the same in every location.

How does the 12-month term work?

A 12-month term lowers the monthly price by 10%. You are still invoiced monthly.

How do disk upgrades work?

You can add extra NVMe SSD to any plan, in any location, in these sizes: +50, +100, +200, +300, +500, +1000 GB. Choose the size when you configure the plan. Prices differ slightly by location, and the plans page lists them.

Network

Is the 10 Gbps port dedicated?

No. It is a virtual port, and Leaseweb's order line calls it "1 X 10GE port Virtual". 10 Gbps is a ceiling, and no sustained speed is promised. The speed you see depends on the whole path, so measure it. Each location page has test commands, and our guide explains what the number means.

How can I test the network before I order?

Each location page names a Leaseweb test server. You can ping it, download test files over plain HTTP, or run iperf3 on ports 5201 to 5210, with one connection per port. Browsers may warn about the download, so the pages also give commands to copy. Leaseweb also has a looking glass. These tests measure the path to Leaseweb's test server, not a customer's VPS, and they promise nothing about one. Singapore's test server is in SIN-01, a different building from SIN-12, where the VPS runs. Our test guide goes through each step.

Where exactly are the data centers?

Some locations carry the name of a nearby city. The buildings are AMS-01 in Haarlem, near Amsterdam; FRA-01 in Frankfurt; LON-01 in Slough, near London; LAX-12 in Los Angeles; SFO-12 in San Jose, in the Bay Area; WDC-02 in Manassas, Virginia; SIN-12 in Singapore.

Payment

Do you give refunds?

No. We do not give refunds, including for unused time on a server.

How do I cancel a server?

Open the server in your dashboard and send a cancellation request. We reply through your tickets. We do not give refunds.

Which coins and networks do you accept?

You can pay with SOL on Solana, BNB on BNB Smart Chain, TRX on Tron, USDC on Solana, USDC on BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), XMR on Monero. Paying with crypto explains the steps.

How do I avoid sending on the wrong network?

Send each coin only on the network shown on the invoice. USDC is offered on two networks, Solana and BNB Smart Chain, and each has its own address. Check the coin, the network and the address in your wallet before you send. Coins sent on another network can't be recovered. Our USDC guide explains the two networks.

Is the rate locked?

No. The invoice shows how much to send at the live rate, plus the exchange's fees and a small margin in case it moves. What arrives is credited to your balance in US dollars and pays for your order, and anything over the price stays in your balance. If less arrives than the price, it stays in your balance and you pay the rest.

Do I need to show ID?

No. We never ask for ID. To pay, you need an account, which holds your name, postal address and email address. This is not a promise of anonymity.

Your server

Can I upgrade or downgrade later?

You can move up to a larger plan. You can't move down to a smaller one. Leaseweb's knowledge base says reducing disk volume is not technically possible. If you need a smaller server, order a new one.

Which operating systems can I install?

These images are free on every plan, in every location: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Debian 13, Debian 12, AlmaLinux 10, AlmaLinux 9, AlmaLinux 8, Rocky Linux 10, Rocky Linux 9, Rocky Linux 8, Fedora 44, FreeBSD 15, FreeBSD 14.

Is Windows available?

No. Windows is not on the image list, which has Linux distributions and FreeBSD.

Can I see CPU, memory and network use?

Yes. Your server page shows CPU use and daily traffic up and down. For memory and live network speed, set up the optional monitor on the same page. It is a small script for Linux that you install yourself, and it uses almost none of your server.

Is a snapshot a backup?

No. Every plan includes 1 snapshot, but it is not a backup. Keep your own copies of anything you can't lose, on a different system.

Do I get full root access?

Yes. Every plan is a KVM virtual machine with its own kernel and full root access. The physical host is shared with other servers, so vCPU and RAM are not dedicated hardware.
